Never in a million years would I have found myself in this position. I am a portrait photographer! Well I am still a portrait photographer but the journey I am on has taken me to another level.
Food. Yes Food. Sigh. I have the 20 pound weight gain to prove it. Lol. It is now officially a service I offer but it wasn't always in the cards.
I stumbled on this path by complete accident. Let me tell you the first session I did was in my opinion a complete failure. Everything that could go wrong, went terribly wrong.
I was really certain this was going to be a piece of cake. I mean Afterall food doesn't move once you pose it, It doesn't blink, and there is no need to worry about whether or not they are going to smile.
The lighting wasn't working with me, the space I was working in was smaller than I could barely move in and I was NERVOUS. Don't ask me why. It wasn't like the owner was standing over my shoulder or the food was looking at me like I didn't know what I was doing. As soon as I was able to get those photos, I was outta there!
The owner of Fit Juice Bar was super nice and offered me a tasty nutritious treat! It was packed full of yummy goodness and I enjoyed every moment of it.
Obviously I decided to give it another go. It just took a few sessions to get the hang of lighting, glare on dishes, using natural light if available, placement of reflectors...so much to actually think about....just like with portraits.
I now go into these sessions with more confidence and more creativity than when I first started. I have come across some really GREAT restaurants that have helped me add 20 pounds to my physique and I can't wait to share all of my adventures in food photography with all of you!
Yes...there are some doosies!
